Elizabeth (Zena) is originally from Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. She spent part of her childhood in Iringa, Tanzania, with her grandmother, who owned several cafeterias in the area. It was there that Zena developed her passion for cooking and learned many of the traditional recipes and techniques that continue to inspire her today. Later, she assisted her mother, who operated a cafeteria at Old Moshi Secondary School.
Before coming to America, Elizabeth faithfully served her local church by preparing meals and providing catering for church services and special events.
After moving to America, she never imagined that her cooking would become the foundation of a business. It wasn’t her plan to pursue a career in food.
One day, a friend from back home asked her to prepare a few traditional dishes for visiting guests. After tasting the food, the guests wanted to know who had prepared such delicious and authentic East African cuisine.
Their enthusiasm and encouragement inspired Elizabeth to share her passion with a wider community—and the rest is history.
